Tobey Building, Concord, NH

Renovation of a historic 80,000 square foot building for New Hampshire Department of Employment Security.  Updated building with new electrical service, standby generator, ice storage air conditioning and new plumbing.

Here is a classic example of choices between cost, historical value, architecture and maintainability.  The decision was made to renovate the building to be the Class A office space it began life as.  The building would not be compromised with low ceilings for updated mechanical systems, nor would mechanical systems be compromised to achieve ceiling heights and transom windows.

It took a great team of craftswomen and men to fit the building systems together like a Swiss watch.  It is amazing the layering of systems above the ceilings.

This means that maintenance budgets are going to suffer.  Every time a valve needs replacing, the Swiss watch needs to be taken apart an put back together.
